چکیده
W e study the M / G / queue where customers arrive according to a sinusoidal function Xt = + A sin(27rt/T) and the service rate is u. We show that the expected number of customers in the system during peak congestion can be closely approximated by (X + A) / p for service distributions with coefficient of variation between 0 and 1. Motivated by a result derived by Eick, Massey, and Whitt that the time lag of the peak congestion from the peak of the customer arrivals is 1/2 4 for models with deterministic service times, we show that the time lag for exponential service times is closely approximated by 1 / [. Based on a cycle length of 24 hours and regardless of the values of other system parameters, these approximations are of the order of 1% accuracy for ,u = 1, and the accuracy increases rapidly with increasing iy. Rising atmospheric carbon dioxide has the potential to alter leaf litter chemistry, potentially affecting decomposition and rates of carbon and nitrogen cycling in forest ecosystems. This study was conducted to determine whether growth under elevated atmospheric CO2 altered the quality and microbial decomposition of leaf litter of a widely distributed northern hardwood species at sites of low a...

The concept of a funneled energy landscape and the principle of minimal frustration are the theoretical foundation justifying the applicability of structure-based models. In simulations, a protein is commonly reduced to a CR-bead representation. These simulations are sufficient to predict the geometrical features of the folding mechanism observed experimentally utilizing a concise formulation o...
متن کاملAutomatic ASCII Art Conversion of Binary Images Using Non-Negative Constraints
It is hard to avoid ASCII Art in today’s digital world, from the ubiquitous emoticons—;)—to the esoteric artistic creations that reside in many people’s e-mail signatures, everybody has come across ASCII art at some stage. The origins of ASCII art can be traced back to the days when computers had a high price, slow operating speeds and limited graphics capabilities, which forced computer progra...
متن کاملDesign of a Neural Network Based Optical Character Recognition System for Musical Notes
Optical character recognition is the procedure by which the computer converts printed materials into ASCII files for editing, compact storage, fast retrieval, and for other purposes. In this study, a neural network approach was applied to perform high accuracy recognition on music score. There are three parts in the study. The first part designed an image preprocessor to obtain sets of images o...
متن کاملStyle-preserving English handwriting synthesis
This paper presents a novel and effective approach to synthesize English handwriting in the user’s writing style. We select the most important features that depict the handwriting style, including character glyph, size, slant, and pressure, special connection style, letter spacing, and cursiveness. The features can be efficiently computed with the aid of our specially designed sample collecting...
